IIS - Internet Information Server is a Microsoft application that allows you run websites on your Windows XP Professional, Vista Ultimate & Business Edition, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008 operating system computers. IIS 7 is more improved version of IIS 6 and supports more scripting languages such as PHP, PERL, and FastCGI, Other available features include FTP with ISS support, Web Management Tools, Diagnostic Tools, and more. By default, few features are installed on IIS 7 and more modules can be installed as required. This article will guide you through steps required to install IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008
Install IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 using Service Manager
1. On your Windows Server 2008, Click Start and click on Server Manager. 2. Click on Roles. 3. On the right panel of the Server Manager under Roles section, click on Add Role. 4. Click next on the “Before You Begin” console. 5. Select the Web Server (IIS) Role. A “Windows Process Activation Services” dialog box will pop-up, click on the Add Required Features button. 6. Select the extra features of IIS 7 you want install and click next. (Default will install the minimum features that will run static web sites). 7. Click next and then click on Install. 8. Click on Close once the installation completes. 9. To open up the IIS Manager, click Start -> Administrative Tools -> IIS Manager.
