ISS - Internet Information Server is a Microsoft application that allows you run websites on your Windows XP Professional or Windows Server 2003 computer or server. ISS is not installed by default; you will have to install it from Windows Component in the Add/Remove console. To install IIS for Windows XP professional, follow these steps: 1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Double click Add/Remove. 2. In the left panel of Add/Remove console, click Add/Remove Windows Components. 3. Select “Internet Information Server” – put a check mark. 4. Click next. 5. Insert Windows XP Professional CD if asked and click Ok. 6. Click Finish. To check, configure, run or stop default website using ISS server. 7. Click Start -> Run and Type; inetmgr 8. In the Internet Information Services console that opens up, expand the tree and select Websites. 9. In the right panel, right click Default website and click Start. 10. To test ISS is working. In your Internet Browser; type: http://localhost/. Default website should open. 11. To setup or redirect default directory; right click default website and click on Properties. Click on Home Directory tab and setup correct home directory. Install IIS for Windows Server 2003, follow these steps: 1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Double click Add/Remove. 2. In the left panel of Add/Remove console, click Add/Remove Windows Components. 3. Double click Application Server. 4. Select Internet Information Server – put check mark. 5. If you require customized installation of ISS, click Details and select the options you want such as Front Page Extensions, SMTP, FTP etc. 6. Insert Windows Server 2003 CD if asked and click Ok. 7. Click Finish. To check, configure, run or stop default website using ISS server. 8. Click Start -> All Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Server (ISS) Manager. 9. In the Internet Information Services console that opens up, expand the tree and select Websites. 10. In the right panel, right click Default website and click Start (if not already started). 11. To test ISS is working. In your Internet Browser; type: http://localhost/. Default website should open. 12. To setup or redirect default directory; right click default website and click on Properties. Click on Home Directory tab and setup correct home directory. You can assign IP addess to the default website here. 13. To add another website, Right click website and click New -> website and follow the prompts.
