how to plan a party checklist

1. Have a theme/purpose

Although no one’s stopping you from throwing a party for no reason, it’s still better to have one with an actual purpose. If not, it should at least have a theme. If it’s not a party for a celebration or occasion, it could be a costume party or the like.

2. Finalize your guest list

Before planning anything else, know the people you’re gonna have in this party. Is it just a small group of friends? The whole class? The whole school? Is it for girls only? Can anyone come? Or is it strictly by invitation only? Whatever it is, finalize the guest list.

3. Food and drinks

Now that you have an expected number of people, you can now estimate how much food and drinks you’ll be needing. Make sure to have a variety of these for your guests, as they tend to have different preferences. Also, remember to have extra food and drinks. Never ever buy stuff that’s “just enough for everyone”. People might eat or drink more than expected and there may be more guests arriving than the original number.

4. Music and decorations

Without these two, your party can be dull and just outright boring. So do what you can: download all the party music to last all night and gather all your friends to help you make the place look great. Or, you know, just hire a DJ and an events stylist.

5. Games

This part is optional, but it sure is a great way to keep the party going and keep the guests from leaving. You can have up to three games, either for individual, couples, groups or everyone. But if it’s just a hangout, chill type of party, then it’s alright if you don’t have games.

6. Souvenirs

You obviously can have a party without souvenirs. But if everybody had an awesome time at your party, they would want something to remember it by–that’s where the souvenirs come in. It could be anything, really. Could be something edible like cupcakes or something that’ll last for years. Whatever it is, just make sure to include the event name and date.

The most important thing as a party host is to make sure everyone will have a good time. If you can do that, then your party is a sure success.
