a brief overview of oktoberfest

To promote the cultural heritage of a society festivals are celebrated. These events highlight the unique characteristics of a human society. Celebrations during the festivals make your culture promote throughout the world and among the new generations too. The prime purpose of celebrating a festival is to enjoy and improve the lifestyle and to expand the culture for the society. Like many festivals which are held during the year, Oktoberfest is the world’s biggest Volksfest. Volkfest refers to the largest travelling funfair and beer festival.

Oktoberfest-Origin

Oktoberfest began on October 12, 1810, when King Ludwig married to Princess Therese and a festival was held to honour the marriage. Till now the Germans celebrate the festival to Honour the marriage of King Ludwig. This is now called as the Oktoberfest. At that time, the festival began with a special parade of soldiers. The parade began from one end and stopped at the end where the mayor/king opens the first keg of beer and then the festival officially started.
The Oktoberfest originally began with horse races and different type of sports. The festival is about eating smoked meat with different sausages and drinking a lot of beer. Only special six major Munich beers are allowed to participate in the festival, within the beer tents. The festival is also known for carnival rides, music and dance shows and plenty of German food around you. Traditional folk music is also played continuously during the festival.

Celebration of Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is held annually in Munich, Germany. This is regarded as the national festival of Germany. Unlike other festivals, this festival goes on for about 16 days. The festival starts in the mid of September and ends in the first week of October. According to an estimate about 6 million people from all around the world come to Munich to celebrate this festival.
